Backups

Backups are a compulsory feature of the software to ensure that a minimum amount of data is lost is case of hardware failure on the Showcase Server or Single User terminals.

How backups work

Each time a user signs on each day a check is made to see if backup has been performed since the End of Day Time on the previous day. If no backup has been performed then one will be started. It is important that all users sign off at the end of each day to allow the backup to be performed correctly as no other users will be permitted to sign onto other terminals the following day until the backup has been successfully completed.

The system will not be available for use until the backup has completed so it is advised to allow sufficient time to complete the backup before opening the box office for sales. The backup can also be set to be automatically performed at a specific time of day before/after opening/closing provided that all terminals have been logged off.

When each backup is performed a copy of the backup will be stored on the Server and a local copy will be stored on the terminal first attempting to sign on. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that the SERVER is NOT SIGNED ON until the backup has been performed on ANY OTHER terminal.

When only a single terminal is installed it is recommended that a floppy disk/external backup is performed so that a duplicate copy is kept in case of hardware failure in which case ALL YOUR DATA MAY BE LOST.

Backups are not compulsory when you have requested to use an external backup utility and agree to ACCEPT ALL RESPONSIBILITY for backing up your data files. A Backup Override Registration # is required to be supplied by Showcase Support.
