The following steps are required to setup members so that sales can be monitored for each member:

Select the following options in Options\Site Options\Members
Select Member Rewards.
if using software to print member cards at sale time select Automatically Number Member Cards, otherwise unselect option
if reward points are to be accumulated at sale time then Allocate Ticket Reward Points and/or Allocate Product Reward Points should be selected.
create Member Clubs and Levels
create Member Rewards (Vouchers) (optional)
create Member Types (optional)
create Member Fees Types (optional)
create Members
