How to download and upgrade to a new version

The following steps are recommended when downloading and upgrading to a newer version of Showcase:

 

Where to copy the downloaded setup files for easy installation

 

for standard networked versions:

It is recommended that a share point be setup on the SERVER to facilitate installing any terminals via the network. This share point is usually named SETUP. The recommended structure of this folder is:

 

<INSTALL_DRIVE>:\setup\showcase\SetupXXXX

 

where:

Prcarrow <INSTALL_DRIVE> is the data disk drive

Prcarrow <SetupXXXX> is the build number of Showcase you are installing ie. Setup6105. This folder stores the NETSETUPXXXX.XXX and SETUPXXXX.XXX files.

Prcarrow The <INSTALL_DRIVE>:\Setup folder should be shared as Setup

 

for single user and lite versions:

It is recommended that a setup folder be created to store the Showcase and other setup files. The recommended structure of this folder is:

 

<INSTALL_DRIVE>:\setup\showcase

where:

Prcarrow <INSTALL_DRIVE> is the data disk drive

Prcarrow <SetupXXXX> is the build number of Showcase you are installing ie. 6105. This folder stores the NETSETUPXXXX.XXX and SETUPXXXX.XXX files.

 

If upgrading from any version prior to Version 5

Due to the significant number of changes from version 4.x it is necessary to first upgrade to version 5.x BEFORE upgrading to version 6.x.

 

To upgrade to version 5.x first:

Prcarrow select Version 5 Setup Files

Prcarrow follow the instructions below as for version 6.x upgrading except using the version 5.x versions

Prcarrow then follow the normal instructions for version 6.x upgrading

 

If upgrading from any version prior to Version 6

It is required to run a pre-install utility prior to upgrading. This file can be downloaded from the link in the instructions when downloading the appropriate NetSetupXXXX files.

 

Upgrading version 6.x to a newer version 6.x

 

for standard networked versions:

 

These instructions assume you have the necessary file permissions to the server. Administrator permissions are REQUIRED when updating the server on Windows 2000, Windows XP and above.

 

where:

<Servername> is the computer name of your server

<Setup> is a shared folder on the server

<SetupXXXX> where XXXX is the Showcase build number ie. 6105

 

Prcarrow create a new folder on the server

\\<servername>\<setup>\showcase\<SetupXXXX>

 

Prcarrow select Standard Setup Files

Prcarrow if upgrading a from 5.x to 6.x then:

select Preinstall Utility and save the file to your server at:

\\<servername>\<setup>\showcase\SetupXXXX

 

Prcarrow select NetSetupStandard.exe and save the file to your server at:

\\<servername>\<setup>\showcase\SetupXXXX

 

You must run the NetSetupStandardXXXX.exe from the above location on the SERVER first and enter your site registration details (if not already entered). This will then extract the SetupStandardXXXX.exe which is then run on each computer.

 

if upgrading from 5.x to 6.x

       YOU MUST RUN THE PREINSTALL6.EXE PRIOR TO RUNNING SETUPSTANDARDXXXX.EXE

 

Once the setup file has extracted on the server:

Prcarrow follow the instructions in the readme file for upgrading an existing installation

 

upon completion of upgrading the server, all other computers can be updated by running the new version of the setup software located at:

       \\<servername>\<setup>\showcase\SetupXXXX\SetupStandardXXXX.exe

 

Do NOT execute the NetSetupStandardXXXX.exe, this only required to executed once in order to extract the file SetupStandardXXXX.exe which is the executed on every other computer.

 

 

for single user versions:

 

These instructions assume you have the necessary file permissions to the server where:

       <Installed drive> is the drive where showcase was installed. ie. C: drive

       <SetupXXXX> where XXXX is the Showcase build number ie. 6105

 

Prcarrow create a new folder on the server at:

<Installed drive>\setup\showcase\<SetupXXXX>

 

Prcarrow select Single User Setup Files

 

Prcarrow if upgrading a from 5.x to 6.x then:

select Preinstall Utility and save the file to your server at:

<Installed drive>\setup\showcase\SetupXXXX

 

Prcarrow select either NetSetupSingleUser.exe (for touchscreen computers without a mouse) or NetSetupSingleUserOffice.exe (for touchscreen computers with a mouse) and save the file to your server at:

<Installed drive>\setup\showcase\SetupXXXX

 

if upgrading from 5.x to 6.x

Showcase 5.x must be running PRIOR to running the preinstall utility.

YOU MUST RUN THE PREINSTALL6.EXE PRIOR TO RUNNING SETUPSIMGLEUSERXXXX.EXE

 

Once the setup file has been executed:

Prcarrow execute the setup program <Installed drive>\setup\showcase\SetupSingleUserYYYXXXX.exe if it has not already started.

Prcarrow follow the instructions in the readme file for upgrading an existing installation

 

for lite versions:

 

select Single User Setup Files

 

These instructions assume you have the necessary file permissions to the server where:

<Installed drive> is the drive where showcase was installed. ie. C: drive

<SetupXXXX> where XXXX is the Showcase build number ie. 6105

 

Prcarrow create a new folder on the server at:

<Installed drive>\setup\showcase\<SetupXXXX>

 

Prcarrow select Single User Setup Files

 

Prcarrow if upgrading a from 5.x to 6.x then:

select Preinstall Utility and save the file to your server at:

<Installed drive>\setup\showcase\SetupXXXX

 

Prcarrow select either:

1. SetupLITE.exe (without EXTERNAL candy bar terminals) or

2. SetupLiteXP.exe (with EXTERNAL candy bar terminals) and save the file to your server at:

<Installed drive>\setup\showcase\SetupXXXX

 

if upgrading from 5.x to 6.x

Showcase 5.x must be running PRIOR to running the preinstall utility.

YOU MUST RUN THE PREINSTALL6.EXE PRIOR TO RUNNING SETUPSIMGLEUSERXXXX.EXE
