Before Installing Showcase on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP

 

Prcarrow administrator rights are required when installing server.

Prcarrow screen resolution must be 800 x 600 with small fonts with 256 colours or better

 

NT Server or NT Workstation acting as Server

Prcarrow ensure that TCP/IP protocol has been installed and configured with a fixed IP address. i.e. 192.168.1.1. You MUST restart the Showcase Server Service if changing your IP address.

Prcarrow optionally that the NETBEUI protocol has been installed (used for support purposes only, and is not required when not running mixed versions of Windows)

Prcarrow sub-net mask on all computers are the same. i.e. 255.255.255.0

Prcarrow network workgroup must be the same. i.e. SHOWCASE        

Prcarrow create folder called SETUP and add share point as 'SETUP'. This folder should be accessible by all persons responsible for updating the software when required.

Prcarrow create folder called SETUP\SHOWCASE. Place all showcase setup files in this directory. Ensure that all setup file(s) exist i.e. SETUPxxxx.EXE (This is used as a common network installation point for clients).

Prcarrow ensure that a Default Printer as has been installed to preview any reports to screen.

 

Workstations:

Prcarrow ensure that TCP/IP protocol has been installed and configured.

Prcarrow If using peer-to-peer network then a fixed IP address must also be assigned. i.e. 192.168.1.2

Prcarrow If using peer-to-peer network then ensure the sub-net mask on all computers are the same. i.e. 255.255.255.0

Prcarrow network workgroup must be the same as the Server: i.e. SHOWCASE

Prcarrow ensure that a Default Printer as has been installed to preview any reports to screen.

 

Install Showcase Now.

 

NT Server or NT Workstation acting as Server

 

To install software from Network Neighborhood/My Network Places:

Prcarrow Select SERVER computer

Prcarrow Select SETUP folder

Prcarrow Select SHOWCASE folder

Prcarrow Double-click on SETUPxxxx.EXE

Prcarrow Select Installation Component Showcase Server, press Next

Prcarrow Select the following Server Components:

1.Server Module
2.Box Office/Candy Bar
3.Gateway Server Service (for Enterprise versions and where LED/TV Signage will be used)
4.All Other options MUST be unchecked

Prcarrow Select Destination directory - Default is "C:\SHOWCASE"

Prcarrow Select YES to create Backup files

Prcarrow Select Destination Backup directory - Default is "C:\SHOWCASE\BACKUP"

Prcarrow press Next

 

Workstations:

 

To install software from Network Neighborhood/My Network Places:

Prcarrow Select SERVER computer

Prcarrow Select SETUP folder

Prcarrow Select SHOWCASE folder

Prcarrow Double-click on SETUPxxxx.EXE

Prcarrow Select Installation Component "Box Office/Candy Bar Terminal", press Next

Prcarrow Select the following Server Components:

1.Box Office
2.All Other options MUST be unchecked

Prcarrow Select Destination directory - Default is "C:\SHOWCASE"

Prcarrow Select YES to create Backup files

Prcarrow Select Destination Backup directory - Default is "C:\SHOWCASE\BACKUP"

Prcarrow press Next

 

After Installing Showcase on Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP:

 

Provided that all computers are visible in Network Neighborhood/My Network Places then Showcase should now be ready for use.

 

If you have any problems connecting to Showcase any computer excluding the server, then check that the TCP/IP network is working correctly by:

Prcarrow Opening an MS-Dos prompt/Command prompt

Prcarrow Type PING 192.168.1.1 and press Enter, you should see are response similar to below if the server is visible and working correctly.
